About Mr. Paul A.

Mr. Paul A. Capriolo began his path to law after completing a dual interest in economics and politics. He earned a Bachelor of Science in economics and political science from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in 1977. He went on to receive a J.D. from The Catholic University of America in 1981. Those years shaped a practical approach to legal work that blends courtroom experience and dispute resolution.

He entered private practice in the mid-1980s. In 1985 he opened the Law Office of Paul A. Capriolo, P.A., handling matters across the Maryland state courts. That practice gave him direct exposure to the procedural and substantive issues that come up in a county-level docket. He built a practice one client and one case at a time, handling litigation and advising clients on next steps.

In 2000 he added a formal role in dispute resolution when he began serving as a mediator for the Circuit Court for Carroll County, Maryland. He holds mediator certifications including MICPEL and MPME, and is accredited to mediate matters in the Carroll County circuit court. His work there involves privately convened sessions and court-ordered mediations, helping parties explore settlement without continuing to trial.

He later joined a partnership arrangement. In 2014 he became a partner at Capriolo & Unglesbee, P.A. The move placed him in a small-firm environment where he continued to handle litigation and mediation matters while collaborating on firm management and client intake. The partner role broadened the administrative side of his practice and kept him engaged in local legal affairs.

Community and professional involvement have been steady features of his career. He has been a member of the Maryland State Bar Association since 1985 and joined the Carroll County Bar Association in 1994. Since 1996 he has held membership — and has served as secretary — of the St. Vincent DePaul Foundation, a volunteer role that connects local outreach to legal and administrative support.

Across four decades of practice in Maryland, his work has combined courtroom representation and alternative dispute resolution. He continues to practice law in Maryland and serves as a mediator in Carroll County, handling civil matters and facilitating settlement discussions in his current practice focus.
