About Mr. James R. Becker

Mr. James R. Becker Jr. has practiced law in Memphis and before federal tribunals for more than three decades. He earned both his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Memphis, taking his B.A. in 1987 and his J.D. in 1991. Those early years on campus led directly into a career that moves between trial-level work and appellate filings.

He began his legal career at the Norwood Law Office in 1993, serving first as a law clerk and then as an attorney. That position provided routine courtroom work and the kind of client contact that shapes a litigator’s early judgment. In 1998 he joined Crone & Mason, where he worked for several years on civil matters and court appearances. In 2006 he opened Becker Law Office and has practiced under that name since.

Becker’s admissions include the Tennessee bar and several federal courts: the Fifth and Sixth Circuits, the D.C. Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court. Those credentials reflect a practice that reaches beyond local trials. He files appeals and handles federal filings that require admission to appellate and specialized forums. Appearing in multiple circuits has meant adapting briefs and courtroom strategies to differing procedural environments.

Colleagues and clients see him as steady and pragmatic. He has maintained membership in the Memphis Bar Association and remains an active participant in the local legal community. That membership has kept him connected to changes in Tennessee procedure, local court rules, and the professional networks that matter in a regional practice.

Outside court dockets, his work has involved the preparation of appellate briefs and federal filings and managing cases through trial and appeal. He balances courtroom presence with the document work that appellate practice demands. His background—rooted in Memphis law school, early clerkship experience, and years at a small firm—shapes a practice that combines litigation mechanics with appellate attention.

He currently practices at Becker Law Office, representing clients in matters before Tennessee courts and the federal appellate courts where he is admitted.
