About Mr. David L.

Mr. David L. Martin built his legal foundation in Michigan and carried it to New York. He earned his law degree from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School in 1986, where his studies concentrated on divorce, criminal and family law. The classroom shaped his early approaches to advocacy and courtroom procedure.

He entered practice as a trial lawyer in 1987 at the Legal Aid Society for the City of New York. Those first years placed him in courtrooms across the city handling difficult, fact-driven matters. He learned to manage tight schedules, shifting client needs and high-stakes hearings. The work at Legal Aid offered regular trial exposure early in his career.

After public interest practice, he moved into private practice and continued to handle matrimonial and family cases alongside criminal matters. He is admitted to practice in New York and in the United States District Court for the Eastern District. His courtroom experience includes jury and bench proceedings, plea negotiations and contested family court hearings. He has represented clients at all stages, from initial intake through trial and post-trial motions.

Mr. Martin has been active in local bar association work for many years. He joined the Queens County Bar Association Matrimonial Committee in 2005 and remains a member. Since 2017 he has served on the Matrimonial Committee of the Nassau County Bar Association. Those assignments keep him involved in local procedural developments and in professional conversations about family law practice in the region.

He operates out of the Law Offices of David L. Martin, Esq., P.C., and maintains a secondary office. His practice handles divorce proceedings, child custody and support matters, and related criminal charges that intersect with family disputes. He represents clients at settlement conferences and in contested hearings, and he continues to appear in federal court for matters within the Eastern District when jurisdiction requires it.

Colleagues note his steady courtroom presence and an approach that favors preparedness over spectacle. Clients who seek him out tend to be facing urgent or contested situations that require immediate attention. He keeps a caseload that blends family and criminal work and remains engaged in local bar committees concerned with matrimonial law. He maintains a practice that handles divorce, family and criminal matters in New York and in the Eastern District federal court.
