About Scott J.
Scott J. Limmer trained in two different regions of the country before settling into practice in New York. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from the State University of New York at Albany in 1990 and went on to receive his Juris Doctor from Nova Southeastern University in 1993. Those years established the groundwork for a career split between public service and private practice.
Fresh from law school, Limmer joined the Nassau County District Attorney's Office as an Assistant District Lawyer in 1994. The role put him inside local courtrooms early in his career. He handled pretrial work, courtroom appearances and the daily demands of prosecutorial practice. The experience provided a direct view of how criminal matters are managed in county courts.
In 1998 he opened his own firm, The Law Offices Of Scott J. Limmer. Building a solo practice required shifting from the institutional pace of a district attorney's office to the varied needs of private clients. He took on a range of criminal matters and guided cases through arraignment, motion practice and trial where necessary. Running a small firm also meant overseeing case strategy, client counseling and the administrative side of a law practice.
Limmer has been active in professional associations that connect defense lawyers across New York and nationally. He has been a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers since 2001 and belongs to the New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, also since 2001. At the local level he has participated in the Nassau County Criminal Court Bar Association since 1998. Those memberships have kept him engaged in continuing legal education and allowed him to stay current on developments in criminal law and procedure.
Colleagues describe him as direct and pragmatic in dealings with clients and opposing counsel. He tends to emphasize preparation and clarity. He approaches cases one client at a time, aiming to explain options and likely outcomes in plain language.
Limmer practices in New York and maintains a presence in Nassau County courtrooms. Over the years he has balanced trial work and negotiated dispositions, adapting to changes in criminal law and courtroom practice. He continues to serve clients through The Law Offices Of Scott J. Limmer, where he focuses on criminal defense in New York.
