About Mr. Aaron
Mr. Aaron Atkinson trained as both a lawyer and an international affairs student. He earned a J.D. and an M.S. in International Law and International Affairs from Florida State University College of Law in 1999, after completing a B.A. in Arts and Humanities and a minor in French at Colorado State University in 1995. Those dual degrees set the stage for a practice that crosses domestic litigation and international legal questions.
His early legal work began in the Colorado court system. In 2004 he served as a judicial clerk for the Arapahoe County District Court, a role that exposed him to case management, judicial decision-making and courtroom procedure. The following year he worked as a contract lawyer for the Colorado Lawyer General, gaining experience on government-side matters. He then spent time as an associate at Patterson, Nuss & Seymour, P.C. in 2006, where he handled litigation tasks and client counseling for a range of civil matters.
In 2010 he became a member of two Colorado firms: Atkinson | Boyle, PLLC and J. Aaron Atkinson, PLLC. Those memberships mark his transition into leadership roles and private practice. Over the years he has managed cases that proceed in state courts and in federal courts within the Tenth Circuit. He maintains practice ties to Colorado and the Tenth Circuit bar rolls.
Atkinson holds a certification in international law. His academic background in international affairs and law supports work on cross-border disputes, treaty interpretation questions, and transactional matters involving foreign parties. He has handled document-intensive matters and coordinated with professionals outside the United States when cases required it. The mix of a litigation practice and an international legal credential informs how he approaches problems that straddle domestic rules and international obligations.
Colleagues and clients have encountered him in courtroom settings, motion practice and negotiated settlements. His path—from a county court clerkship through government contracts to private practice—reflects steady movement into roles that combine courtroom experience and technical legal analysis. He keeps a practical approach to cases, emphasizing procedure, factual development and clear advocacy.
He continues to practice in Colorado and in federal matters before the Tenth Circuit. His current work centers on civil litigation and international law matters in those jurisdictions.
