About Mitchell

Mitchell Tacy began his path to law in the study of workplace relations. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Labor Relations from Cornell University in 1992. He continued his studies at Albany Law School and received his Juris Doctor in 1996. Those years of study framed an interest in how rules and relationships interact — a theme that would carry into his legal career.

After law school, Tacy established himself as a family law attorney and mediator practicing in Colorado. He built a practice that handles the full range of family matters: divorce, parenting time and custody arrangements, division of assets and debts, and spousal maintenance. He also offers mediation services to parties who want alternatives to courtroom litigation. Over time his work has combined courtroom advocacy and private dispute resolution.

Clients who work with Tacy encounter a lawyer who emphasizes clarity and process. He prepares pleadings and agreements, represents clients at hearings, and conducts mediated sessions aimed at reaching mutually acceptable resolutions. He often explains options in plain language so people can make informed decisions under pressure. He represents individuals with differing needs — parents negotiating custody plans, spouses dividing complex financial portfolios, and people exploring settlement before trial.

Tacy’s mediation practice draws on negotiation skills and a calm procedural approach. In mediation sessions he manages discussions, helps frame issues for bargaining, and oversees the drafting of settlement terms when parties reach agreement. He can move a dispute from positional posturing to practical problem solving. When cases cannot settle, he shifts to litigation tactics and courtroom procedure while maintaining attention to client goals.

Outside of individual client work, Tacy’s education in labor relations informs how he assesses workplace-related family issues and financial questions that arise from employment benefits and retirement plans. That background can be useful in cases that involve pensions, stock options, or employer-provided health coverage. He runs his practice from Mitch Tacy Family Law Lawyer & Mediator and serves clients across Colorado. He currently focuses on family law and mediation practice in Colorado.
