About Mike

Mike Massey built a professional path that crosses law, accounting and financial services. He began his academic journey at the University of Texas at Austin, earning a B.B.A. in Accounting and an M.P.A. in Professional Accounting in 1998. He then moved to Houston for law school and completed a J.D. at the University of Houston Law Center in 2001, followed by an M.B.A. from the C.T. Bauer College of Business in 2002. The combination of accounting, law and business degrees shaped the practical approach he brought to both legal practice and wealth management.

His first legal role came as a law clerk at McConn & Williams LLP in 1999. He moved into financial services soon after. In 2003 he joined Jackson National Life as a regional vice president. Over the next decade he held senior business and consulting roles aligned with retirement products and wealth services. Positions included senior regional business consultant at a Jackson subsidiary, retirement consultant and regional vice president at Allianz Life, and roles at income and wealth advisory firms.

By the mid-2010s his resume showed an overlap of legal and financial responsibilities. In 2015 he is listed as Lawyer and Managing Director at Mike Massey Law. He later worked as a wealth manager at Legacy One Financial Advisors and as a money manager and financial planner at ATX Financial Planning, LLC in 2020. Those moves reflect a career that alternated between licensed financial services roles and legal practice.

Massey’s training in accounting and public administration informs how he handles client matters. His background suggests fluency in retirement planning issues, regulatory considerations for financial products and the tax implications that often accompany wealth transfers. Colleagues and clients see him as someone who combines technical knowledge of numbers with courtroom and transactional legal skills.

He has maintained professional activity in Texas across multiple roles. He runs or has run offices under his own name and under Mike Massey Law, blending advisory services and legal representation. That mix of services means he frequently addresses matters where financial planning and legal drafting intersect, such as retirement arrangements and estate-related documents.

He currently practices at Mike Massey Law and ATX Financial Planning, LLC, handling matters that bridge law and financial planning.
