Mike Baker is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in the states of Utah, California, and Colorado. He was admitted to the Utah State Bar in 2006, the California State Bar in 2007, and the Colorado State Bar in 2007. His license status is currently active in all three jurisdictions. Mr. Baker is the managing partner at Baker Tax Law, a firm specializing in tax law, with offices located in Salt Lake City, Utah; Los Angeles, California; and Denver, Colorado. He has been practicing law for over 19 years, serving clients across these states.
Mr. Baker earned his Juris Doctor degree from Cornell Law School in 2003. He furthered his legal education by obtaining a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Taxation from New York University School of Law in 2014. Prior to his legal studies, he completed his undergraduate education at Utah State University, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1996. During his time at Cornell, he was actively involved in the Tax Law Society and participated in various tax-related seminars and workshops.
Mr. Baker concentrates his practice in the areas of tax law, focusing on individual and corporate taxation, estate planning, and tax compliance. He represents clients in matters involving tax disputes, audits, and appeals, as well as in the negotiation and drafting of tax-related agreements. His practice encompasses all stages of legal proceedings, including initial consultations, negotiations, administrative hearings, and litigation in both state and federal courts.
Throughout his career, Mr. Baker has handled cases in the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah, the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, and the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado. He has also appeared before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. Prior to founding Baker Tax Law, he worked as a tax associate at a national law firm in Salt Lake City for five years, where he gained extensive experience in tax litigation and compliance.
Mr. Baker is an active member of the American Bar Association Section of Taxation and the Utah State Bar Tax Section. He holds membership in the California State Bar Taxation Section and the Colorado Bar Association Tax Section. He is also a certified public accountant (CPA) in Utah, which enhances his ability to provide comprehensive tax services. Mr. Baker is fluent in English and Spanish, allowing him to effectively serve a diverse clientele across the three states.
