About Michael T.

Michael T. Barrett began his professional journey at the University of Connecticut, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and Journalism. The dual training gave him tools for close reading and concise explanation. He followed that undergraduate foundation with a Juris Doctor from New York Law School, completing the formal legal education that led him back to Connecticut to practice.

After law school, Barrett took the necessary steps to practice in Connecticut. He has spent his career working in that state. His legal work has involved representing clients in matters arising under Connecticut law and appearing in the state’s courts and administrative forums.

Barrett’s undergraduate studies continue to shape how he approaches legal problems. The history major’s attention to context and chronology informs how he constructs factual narratives. The journalism background influences how he gathers facts and communicates them. Those skills translate into careful legal research, drafting of pleadings and correspondence, and preparation for hearings and trials.

During his time in practice, Barrett has handled a diverse set of assignments. He has advised clients, prepared written submissions, negotiated on behalf of others, and prepared cases for adjudication. He has worked with individuals, businesses and public entities, adapting advocacy and counsel to the needs of each client. He also has experience interacting with judges, clerks and agency personnel in Connecticut’s legal system.

Outside of courtroom and agency work, Barrett’s career reflects steady involvement in day-to-day legal practice: counseling clients, managing case files, and documenting the factual record in ways that support legal arguments. He places emphasis on clear writing and thorough preparation. Those habits stem from his training and were reinforced in law school and in subsequent practice.

Colleagues and clients who have interacted with Barrett often note his methodical approach to problem solving. He favors careful fact-finding and structured presentation of issues. That style carries through from initial intake to settlement discussions or trial preparation.

He maintains his practice in Connecticut and continues to serve clients there. He currently practices law in Connecticut.
