About Michael L.
Michael L. Poe built his legal path on courtroom work and courtroom rules. He earned his J.D. from William & Mary Marshall-Wythe School of Law in 2011 and entered active practice the same year. He is admitted to the bars of Virginia and the District of Columbia and appears in federal court in the Eastern District of Virginia.
Poe's academic background began at Miami University of Ohio, where he completed a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science in 2006. He moved on to William & Mary for law school and finished in 2011. Those formative years shaped his interest in litigation and public-service institutions.
He began his post-law-school career in Virginia. By 2012 he was a senior associate at Arquilla & Poe, PLC. He spent more than a decade at that firm, handling matters that took him into state and federal courtrooms and the conference rooms that precede them. Colleagues describe him as steady under pressure and methodical in preparation.
In 2024 he joined Livesay & Myers, P.C. as a senior associate. That move brought him into a different firm environment and caseload. His practice requires regular appearances in trial settings, motion practice, and client counseling. He is admitted in multiple jurisdictions and routinely files and defends claims in both state and federal forums.
Poe maintains active memberships in several local and statewide bar organizations. He has been a member of the Virginia State Bar since 2011. He joined the Fairfax Bar Association in 2012 and the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association in 2013. He also holds membership in the Alexandria Bar Association beginning in 2018. Those affiliations reflect ongoing engagement with peers and continuing legal education.
His courtroom work has been a through line across firms and years. He handles filings, arguments, and courtroom strategy in the jurisdictions where he is admitted. He also spends time preparing witnesses and drafting the pleadings and motions that shape litigation strategy.
Outside the courtroom he participates in bar activities and professional development programs. He keeps current on procedural changes and case law in the Eastern District of Virginia and in Virginia state courts. He continues to practice actively and handles litigation matters across his admitted jurisdictions.
He currently practices as a senior associate at Livesay & Myers, P.C., handling litigation matters in Virginia, the District of Columbia, and the Eastern District of Virginia.
