About Michael J
Michael J Williams studied communications and management at Brigham Young University, earning a B.A. in 2010. He followed that with a J.D. from The George Washington University Law School, awarded in 2013. The combination of a communications background and legal training set the stage for a career at the intersection of technology, health care and privacy law.
Early in his career he pursued practical legal work inside law firms and corporate legal departments. He spent time as an intern at the Federal Judicial Center and then as a law clerk at Miles & Stockbridge and Remedy Informatics. In 2013 he moved into an assistant general counsel role at Remedy Informatics, stepping into the corporate side of health information technology.
In 2014 he launched Williams Law PLLC. Over the next several years he advised clients on privacy and data use, regulatory compliance, and technology agreements. He handled contracts and policy matters for companies working with health data. That period gave him hands-on experience in both client counseling and the operational demands of data-driven businesses.
By 2017 he had taken an in-house leadership post as general counsel, corporate secretary and chief privacy officer at Collective Medical. The role combined governance responsibilities with oversight of privacy programs. He later served as associate general counsel and privacy officer at PointClickCare in 2020, where he worked on data protection strategies and vendor arrangements for a large healthcare software provider.
In 2023 he took a senior privacy and security counsel position at Collective Health. His in-house positions have involved drafting and negotiating complex agreements, responding to data incidents, and developing internal privacy policies. He has experience balancing legal risk, operational needs and regulatory requirements in environments that process sensitive health information.
Michael is licensed to practice in Utah and maintains memberships in professional associations relevant to privacy and health care law. Colleagues describe him as pragmatic and detail-oriented in handling contractual and compliance matters. He keeps current on regulatory developments affecting patient data and health information technology.
He currently focuses on privacy and security matters at Collective Health.
