About Michael J.

Michael J. Donohue built his legal foundation at Villanova University, finishing undergraduate studies in 2002, and went on to earn a Juris Doctor from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School in 2004. He returned to Pennsylvania to begin practicing law. Early in his career he gravitated to criminal defense work and has stayed in that field ever since.

He is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania and is admitted to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. His professional memberships include the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Pennsylvania Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Pennsylvania Bar Association. These affiliations place him in regular dialogue with peers on trial strategy, evidence issues and developments in criminal law.

Donohue’s day-to-day work mixes courtroom time and client counseling. He appears in municipal, state and federal courts. He handles pretrial motions, negotiates pleas and represents clients at trial. He also deals with post-conviction matters when they arise. Colleagues describe him as methodical in preparing cases, precise in his use of legal authority and direct when questioning witnesses. He organizes filings clearly and keeps clients informed at each stage.

He has experience in a broad range of criminal matters. That includes drug cases, DUI and traffic-related prosecutions, theft and white-collar matters. He represents clients facing both misdemeanor and felony charges. His practice requires an ability to assess evidence quickly and to decide when to press for trial versus pursue negotiated resolutions. He also handles suppression hearings and other constitutional challenges.

Clients encounter Donohue in every phase of a case. Initial consultations often focus on explaining potential outcomes, timelines and the mechanics of court proceedings. He places emphasis on explaining legal options plainly so clients can make informed decisions. He prepares witnesses, drafts motions and argues in court. The work demands familiarity with criminal procedure, sentencing law and federal court practice when cases are removed or charged at the federal level.

Outside the courtroom he participates in the professional groups that shape criminal defense practice in Pennsylvania. He attends continuing legal education programs and contributes to discussions on case law and legislative changes affecting defendants’ rights.

As of 2026 he continues to practice criminal defense in Pennsylvania, representing individuals at both the state and federal levels and handling pretrial, trial and post-conviction matters.
