About Michael
Michael Goldberg grew up studying politics and law. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Beloit College, completing his undergraduate studies in 2007. He then attended the University of Illinois Chicago John Marshall Law School and received his J.D. in 2012.
His early exposure to courtroom procedure came while he served as a staff lawyer intern at the 19th Judicial Circuit Court of Lake County, Illinois in 2011. That placement preceded his first post-law-school role as an associate at The Rogers Law Group, NFP, where he began practicing in 2012. Over the next several years he worked in smaller firm environments, joining Lakelaw in 2015 and then Matlin Law Group, P.C. in 2016, handling a range of transactional and litigation matters for private clients and local businesses.
Goldberg became a managing partner at Johnston Tomei Lenczcycki & Goldberg LLC in 2018. He now shares firm leadership duties while continuing to handle client work. He holds admission to practice in Illinois and is also admitted to the Federal Circuit. He maintains active memberships in state and local bar associations, including the Illinois State Bar Association and the Lake County Bar Association since 2012. He is a member of the Illinois Association of Independent Lawyers and joined the Lake County Estate Planning Council in 2021.
In addition to his bar credentials, Goldberg holds a Managing Real Estate Broker certification from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. That licensing complements the real estate transactions and closings he handles at the firm, and it informs his work on title issues and property disputes. Colleagues describe him as steady in negotiations and practical in courtroom settings. He has balanced transactional files alongside contested matters throughout his career.
Clients and peers encounter a lawyer who has moved steadily from internships and associate roles into firm management. He handles estate planning tasks, brings an understanding of real estate law to closings and disputes, and appears in both state and federal matters when appropriate. He also works with younger lawyers at the firm, overseeing file management and training on procedural practice.
Goldberg’s practice is anchored in Lake County and the surrounding Illinois communities. He continues to develop the firm’s local bench relationships while managing daily practice operations. He currently concentrates his practice on estate planning, real estate and related litigation.
