About Lawrence J.
Lawrence J. Gregory brings a nontraditional mix of accountancy, computer science and law to his legal work. He earned undergraduate degrees in accountancy and computer science from Northern Illinois University, then pursued a law degree at The John Marshall Law School. He also holds certification as a Certified Public Accountant from the Illinois Board of Examiners.
His background in numbers and systems informed an early interest in tax and business matters. That education led him into practice areas where accounting insight matters as much as courtroom strategy. Gregory is admitted to practice in Illinois and Wisconsin and is also admitted to the United States Tax Court, credentials that reflect his combined tax and legal training.
Over the years he has been active in both bar and professional accounting circles. He maintains memberships in the State Bar of Wisconsin, the Illinois State Bar Association and the Lake County Bar Association. He also belongs to the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Illinois CPA Society. Those memberships keep him tied to developments in tax policy, financial reporting and the intersection of law and accounting.
Colleagues describe Gregory as methodical and detail-oriented in approaching client matters. He works with individuals and closely held businesses on estate planning, tax compliance and transactional matters. His accounting background helps when tax planning and estate valuation require more than a legal checklist. He also assists clients who must present complex financial information to government agencies or the Tax Court.
Gregory’s practice blends advisory work and dispute resolution. He prepares estate plans and business succession documents, advises on entity selection and governance, and represents clients in tax controversies when necessary. He places particular emphasis on translating technical financial issues into clear options so clients can make informed choices.
He currently practices at Estate & Business Law Group, PC, where he handles estate planning, business law and tax matters for individuals and small-to-mid-size enterprises.
