About Jeffery J
Jeffery J. Nutschnig earned his undergraduate degree from Purdue University in 1993, where he studied psychology, history and communications. He went on to attend The John Marshall Law School and received his Juris Doctor in 2001. Those years shaped both his approach to legal reasoning and his interest in courtroom work.
He began his legal career in the public sector. In 2001 he served as an assistant state’s lawyer in the Office of the Lake County State’s Lawyer. That role put him in court early and provided direct exposure to the mechanics of prosecution and courtroom procedure. He moved into private practice in 2004 as an associate at Soffietti, Johnson, Teegen, Phillips & Argueta, where he handled matters alongside more senior attorneys and gained experience managing client files and preparing cases for trial.
In 2015 Nutschnig became a partner at Nutschnig & Cavanaugh Lawyers at Law P.C. The partnership lasted several years and reflected a transition from associate responsibilities to firm leadership. In 2019 he established the Law Offices of Jeffery J. Nutschnig and assumed the role of president. That step returned him to a solo-practice structure and placed him in charge of day-to-day decisions about case intake, client counseling and litigation strategy.
Over the course of his career he has worked at both public and private firms, and he has logged substantial courtroom time. Those experiences have informed the way he prepares cases and communicates with clients. He is comfortable in litigation settings and has worked on matters that required on-the-record hearings, motions practice and trial preparation.
Nutschnig maintains professional ties to his local legal community. He is a current member of the Lake County Bar Association. That membership keeps him connected to colleagues in the region and to continuing legal education opportunities.
Colleagues and clients describe him as pragmatic and straightforward in his approach to legal problems. He tends to favor clear explanations over legalese, and he prioritizes practical options when advising clients. His background in psychology, history and communications influences how he frames arguments and prepares witnesses for testimony.
He operates from the Law Offices of Jeffery J. Nutschnig and accepts matters in Illinois courts. He continues to practice law through his own firm, handling litigation and client representation in the state of Illinois.
