About Michael F.
Michael F. Lawrence built his legal foundation in classrooms on two coasts. He earned a B.A. in Political Science and History from Long Island University’s C.W. Post Campus in 1978. Four years later he completed his J.D. at the University of Louisville in 1982. Those years shaped a practitioner comfortable in both the theory and practice of law.
His professional record runs through state and federal court dockets. He is admitted to practice in Kentucky and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Since completing law school he has remained active in the profession for more than forty years, appearing in filings and hearings that span trial and appellate work.
Lawrence’s experience includes work in state courts across Kentucky and filings before the Sixth Circuit. He has handled procedures that range from initial pleadings through appellate briefs. Over time he has become familiar with the procedural rhythm of both trial calendars and appellate deadlines, and he has navigated matters that required adjustments between those settings.
Colleagues and court records show a lawyer who moves comfortably between courtroom advocacy and written argument. His practice has required preparation for oral argument and careful drafting for appellate review. That combination of courtroom exposure and appellate practice means he has worked on matters where the transition from trial court to appellate review was important to the client’s outcome.
Outside of courtroom descriptions, his educational start in political science and history has influenced the way he frames legal questions. The background lends itself to work that often involves statutory interpretation and precedent analysis. It also informs how he prepares records and arguments for judges who must read facts alongside law.
Today he maintains an active practice based in Kentucky. He continues to handle matters that arise in state courts and matters brought before the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. His current practice handles litigation and appellate work in those jurisdictions.
