About Michael D. Barber
Michael D. Barber Jr. began his legal path long before law school. He worked as a paralegal at a family firm in 1992, returned to legal studies in the early 2000s, and earned his J.D. from Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School in 2007 after entering the program in 2004. That early exposure to courtroom work and case preparation shaped the next steps of his career.
He moved into practice as a junior lawyer in 2008 at Michael D. Barber, P.C., the office where he had earlier worked as a paralegal. Two years later he took a public service post as an assistant solicitor in the City of Atlanta Solicitor’s Office. In that role he handled municipal prosecutions and gained courtroom experience on a steady docket of misdemeanor and traffic matters.
By 2013 Barber returned to private practice as a partner at Yeargan, Barber & Kert, L.L.C. The partnership broadened his trial work and his handling of criminal and traffic-related defense. In 2017 he became senior partner and owner of Michael D. Barber & Associates, P.C., a firm that operates multiple offices across the Atlanta area, including locations in Dunwoody, Atlanta, Lawrenceville and Walton County.
Barber’s practice reflects a long-running interest in impaired driving cases. He holds several certifications from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration: Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement, and DUI as a Lethal Weapon. Those certifications inform his courtroom approach and his cross-examination of testing procedures and officer observations.
He maintains memberships in several local and national groups. Barber joined the Cobb County and DeKalb County Bar Associations in 2008. He became affiliated with the National College for DUI Defense in 2013 and joined the Lawyers Club of Atlanta in 2019. These affiliations provide continuing education and peer connections for trial practice and advocacy.
