About Michael C

Michael C Mapes trained at the McGeorge School of Law at the University of the Pacific and built his early practice through clinic work and public interest placements. He spent time in the McGeorge Elder and Health Law Clinic in 2011, gaining direct experience with client counseling and casework in a supervised clinical setting. The year that followed took him into nonprofit legal services, where he worked at Legal Services of Northern California in 2012.

Those early placements gave him a grounding in practical lawyering. He moved into firm practice in 2013 as a litigation associate at Robertson, Johnson, Miller, and Williamson. There he handled disputes and participated in courtroom and pretrial work. A year later he shifted roles to the transactional side, joining Porter Simon as a transactional associate in 2014. That period broadened his range, exposing him to contract drafting, negotiations, and transactional due diligence alongside litigation matters.

Mapes is licensed to practice in both California and Nevada. Over the years he has alternated between dispute resolution and transactional responsibilities, which informs the way he approaches client problems. He tends to view matters from both strategic and practical perspectives, weighing how transactional choices may influence later disputes and how litigation posture can affect deal terms.

He now practices under the name Mapes Legal PC. The firm handles matters that draw on his dual background: litigation work on one hand and business and transactional matters on the other. His day-to-day work involves advising clients, preparing pleadings and transactional documents, and representing clients in negotiations and hearings when matters proceed beyond the advice stage.

Colleagues describe him as methodical and detail-oriented in preparing cases and agreements. He relies on the hands-on lessons from his clinic and nonprofit years when assessing client needs, and he uses the practical skills from firm practice when managing filings and negotiations. That combination guides how he staffs matters and prioritizes client objectives.

After more than a decade in practice, Mapes continues to operate across state lines, handling matters in California and Nevada. He maintains an active practice at Mapes Legal PC and focuses on litigation and transactional matters in those jurisdictions.
