About Michael
Michael Bottar studied at Colgate University, where he earned a B.A. in 2000. He went on to Syracuse University College of Law and received his J.D. in 2003. Those years set the stage for a career that moves between private practice, teaching and community work.
He began his legal career at White & Case in 2003. After a few years there he joined Bond, Schoeneck & King in 2006. In 2007 he established Bottar Law, PLLC. He later took on a business role outside traditional law practice, becoming a managing member of Bottar Ventures, LLC in 2015. In 2010 he returned briefly to Syracuse University as an adjunct professor, teaching law students and maintaining a practice.
Bottar is admitted to practice in New York and in several federal courts, including the Western, Northern and Southern Districts of New York. He belongs to a number of professional organizations: the New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers, the American Association for Justice, the New York State Bar Association, the Northern District of New York Federal Court Bar Association, the Onondaga County Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the Syracuse University Law Alumni Association. Those memberships reflect sustained engagement with the trial bar and the local legal community.
Outside the courtroom he has served on nonprofit boards. He is a past member of the board of directors of Contact Community Services and a former member of the advisory board of the Central New York Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation. He also provides pro bono legal counsel to nonprofit organizations, including inMotion, Inc. and Human Rights First.
Over the course of his career Bottar has worked on matters in both state and federal courts and has balanced private practice with teaching and civic involvement. He has moved between large firm settings and running his own practice, and he continues to participate in professional groups that focus on trial practice.
He practices at Bottar Law, PLLC, where he handles litigation in state and federal courts.
