About Michael A.
Michael A. Kalil began his legal path after earning a J.D. from Stetson University College of Law in 2006. He entered practice at a time when Florida courts were dealing with shifting criminal justice issues. Early on he chose litigation and trial work as the places he wanted to spend his time. The classroom at Stetson set the foundation. The courthouse would shape the rest.
His first public-sector role came in 2009 when he served as an Assistant Public Defender in the Office of the Public Defender for Florida’s 4th Judicial Circuit. There he represented clients in a range of criminal matters. The position required quick thinking, courtroom preparedness, and steady client contact. It also exposed him to the realities of trial calendars, plea negotiations, and the practical work of defending liberty at the local level.
In 2011 he moved into private practice as a trial lawyer at the Law Offices of John Kalil, P.A. His work there continued to center on contested hearings and jury trials. He handled arraignments, pretrial motions, and bench and jury proceedings. The office provided a setting where courtroom experience and case preparation came together every day. Colleagues and clients relied on him to steer matters from intake through resolution.
Outside day-to-day practice he has maintained ties to the broader legal community. He is a member of the Florida Justice Association and holds membership on its Young Lawyers Board. That involvement keeps him connected to developments in trial advocacy, legislative changes affecting practice, and opportunities for continuing legal education. It also places him among lawyers who focus on trial procedure and advocacy in Florida courts.
Today he practices in Florida at the Law Offices of John Kalil, P.A. His caseload continues to involve criminal defense and trial litigation. He appears in state court proceedings and manages case work that moves from investigation to courtroom testimony. His current practice focuses on criminal defense and trial litigation at the Law Offices of John Kalil, P.A.
