About Michael A
Michael A Johnson earned his law degree from Ohio Northern University in 1977 after completing a bachelor’s degree at Saint Vincent College in 1973. He holds admissions that reach beyond state lines, including the U.S. Supreme Court, the Third Circuit, the Federal Circuit and the Pennsylvania bar. Those credentials set the stage for a long career across public, private and educational roles.
He began taking on municipal and title matters in the 1980s. In 1987 he served as Assistant Municipal Solicitor for the Borough of Scottdale, Pa., and that same year he became an approved lawyer for Commonwealth Land Title Company. That early work tied him to both local government practice and the title industry, areas he maintained through later leadership roles.
Mr. Johnson has been an active participant in bar organization life for decades. He has been a member of the Pennsylvania Bar since 1980 and a life member of the Westmoreland Bar Association since 1981. He has been involved in the Pennsylvania Bar Association Workers’ Compensation Section, the Pennsylvania Association for Justice and the Pa. Trial Lawyers Association workers’ compensation section. From 1996 to 2003 he held multiple posts in the Ned J. Nakles American Inn of Court, including barrister and roles on the executive board.
He has also taken on governance and industry leadership. He served as president and board member of Lawyers Abstract Title Company from 1997 to 2002 and has maintained a relationship with title companies since the late 1980s. He represented Westmoreland County on the PBA Zone 6 Board of Delegates in the mid-1990s and chaired local bar building committees in earlier years.
Teaching and speaking have been recurring themes. Mr. Johnson was an adjunct professor in the paralegal program at Westmoreland County Community College from 2007 to 2015. He was a panelist and lecturer at the PATLA/WBA/PBA workers’ compensation seminars from 1995 through 2002. He has also advised high school mock trial teams and served on local chambers of commerce and festival committees.
Community service has run alongside his professional work. Between 1993 and 1999 he held leadership posts at the Mental Health Association of Westmoreland County. He has served on the St. Vincent College Alumni Council and taken part in numerous civic boards and committees in the Mt. Pleasant area.
Today he remains active in statewide and local bar groups and continues to accept matters in Pennsylvania federal and state courts. His current practice focuses on workers’ compensation, land title matters and municipal law.
