About Meredith

Meredith Carpenter began her academic path in education and social services before turning to law. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Education and Early Childhood Special Education from the University of Alabama in 2002, followed by a Master of Science in Social Work from the same university in 2004. She later completed a Juris Doctor at Birmingham School of Law, conferred in 2009.

Those three degrees shaped a career that moves between public service and private practice. Early on she combined classroom knowledge and social work training in roles that required close attention to family dynamics and community resources. After law school she entered the legal profession and within a few years launched her own practice, founding The Law Office of Meredith Woods Markham, LLC in 2011.

Her career took a turn toward nonprofit legal work in 2017 when she served as a staff lawyer at the YWCA of Central Alabama. In that role she worked alongside social service providers and agency staff to address legal needs presented by the organization’s clients. The position deepened her experience in institutional practice and offered daily contact with people navigating complex personal and legal challenges.

In 2018 she opened Meredith Carpenter Law, LLC. The firm reflects her background across education, social work and law. She handles matters that bring legal issues and human services into contact. Her approach emphasizes practical solutions and coordination with other service providers when cases require that kind of collaboration.

She has held professional membership since 2010, maintaining connections to peers and the broader legal community in Alabama. Her career has alternated between running small firms and contributing to an agency setting. That mix has shaped how she manages a caseload and how she evaluates options for clients.

Meredith Carpenter practices in Alabama and manages her work from Meredith Carpenter Law, LLC. Her practice continues to draw on earlier training in education and social work as she assists clients with legal matters that intersect with family and community services, while operating a small law practice in the state.
