About Melissa
Melissa Garscin built her legal foundation at Colorado State University, where she earned a B.A. in sociology with an emphasis in criminal justice in 1992. She went on to receive her J.D. from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 1998 and entered courtroom work shortly after graduation.
Her first position was as a trial lawyer at the Office of the Public Defender serving Jefferson and Adams counties. She spent the early years of her career representing clients faced with a range of criminal charges and gaining hands-on trial experience. By 2006 she was a senior lawyer at the Brighton Regional Public Defenders office, a role that deepened her work in public defense and courtroom advocacy.
Garscin transitioned into private practice over the following decade. She joined Inman Flynn Biesterfeld & Brentlinger P.C. as an associate in 2008 and became a partner at The Law Offices of D.R. Jones in 2010. In 2013 she took on the role of senior partner at Garscin Law P.C. and later served as senior managing lawyer at Colorado Legal Defense Group in 2017. Those positions placed her in leadership roles while keeping her connected to trial work.
Her practice has long centered on criminal defense. Courtroom representation has included arraignments, pretrial litigation and jury trials. She has represented adults in felony and misdemeanor matters and worked with juvenile clients through both court proceedings and local services. Her background in sociology informs her perspective on client circumstances and the systems they face.
Outside of casework she has remained active in local legal circles. She is a member of the First Judicial District Bar Association and the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar Association. She volunteers as a lawyer with the Juvenile Services Planning Committee in Jefferson County, advising on matters that affect youth involved with the justice system.
Over the years Garscin has moved between public defense and private firms, carrying courtroom practice into each role. Her offices have included Garscin Law P.C. and GLaw Defense, where she maintains a presence alongside other local practitioners. She continues to work in Colorado courts and represents clients in criminal cases at various stages of the process.
She currently practices criminal defense at GLaw Defense and Garscin Law P.C.
