About Megan
Megan Rue earned her law degree from The University of Texas School of Law in 2015. She completed the standard course of study there and moved into practice in Texas soon after. Her academic background at UT Law provided the foundation for courtroom work and criminal defense practice that she has pursued since.
Rue began building her legal career in the years after law school and by 2019 she was working at Cofer & Connelly, PLLC as a lawyer. That position placed her inside a small-firm environment where case handling, client contact and courtroom appearances are part of the daily routine. Colleagues and court records from that period reflect steady participation in hearings, motions practice and trial preparation.
Outside the office she has taken on leadership and membership roles in professional organizations. She serves on the National Executive Committee of the National Lawyers Guild, a post that involves coordinating with lawyers and advocates across jurisdictions. She also holds memberships in the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and the Austin Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. Those ties keep her connected to local and statewide developments in criminal law and procedure.
Her practice centers on criminal defense work in Texas. She represents clients charged with state offenses and handles matters that range from pretrial advocacy to courtroom litigation. In casework she has addressed evidentiary and procedural issues and worked through plea negotiations, bail hearings and trials when required. The combination of courtroom time and involvement in professional groups has shaped a practical understanding of criminal practice in Texas courts.
Colleagues describe her approach in pragmatic terms: attentive to procedural detail, present at hearings and responsive to the changing tempo of criminal dockets. She balances individual client needs with the strategic demands of litigation. In the courtroom she has focused on protecting procedural rights and testing the legal theories advanced by prosecutors.
As of 2026 Rue continues to practice law at Cofer & Connelly, PLLC in Texas. She remains active in the National Lawyers Guild and in state and local criminal defense associations. Her current practice is concentrated on criminal defense matters in Texas state courts.
