About Max

Max Colice followed an academic path that is uncommon among lawyers. He earned a B.S. from Brown University in 1999 and went on to complete a Ph.D. at the University of Colorado - Boulder in 2007. He then returned to school for a J.D. from Suffolk University Law School, graduating in 2012. That mix of scientific research and legal training shaped how he approaches technical legal problems.

After law school he entered private practice. Early in his legal career he served as an associate at Cooley Godward Kronish LLP. There he worked on matters that involved patent preparation and prosecution, interacting with inventors and examining patentability questions. His time at the firm offered experience in drafting patent applications and managing filings before federal authorities.

Colice is admitted to the bar in Massachusetts and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Those credentials reflect the dual track of his background—grounded in science and capable in the procedural aspects of patent law. He has represented clients at different stages of the patent lifecycle, from initial counseling about protectable inventions through the prosecution process at the USPTO.

Colleagues describe him as methodical in handling technical documentation and precise in written work. He combines laboratory-style attention to detail with the deadlines and structure of patent prosecution. That combination is useful when preparing claims, responding to office actions, or coordinating filing strategies for multiple jurisdictions.

Outside of direct prosecution work, he has assisted on matters that require coordination between inventors, in-house teams, and outside counsel. He has experience organizing invention disclosures, evaluating prior art, and advising on procedural issues before the Patent Office. His ability to move between technical description and legal argument helps clients translate inventive concepts into patentable claims.

Clients who seek patent protection in Massachusetts and before the USPTO will find his background relevant to technically complex matters. He remains active in practice and available to handle patent prosecution and related intellectual property work across those jurisdictions. He currently practices patent law in Massachusetts and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, handling patent prosecution and related IP matters.
