About Matthew W.

Matthew W. Kurylo earned his law degree from the University of Richmond School of Law in 2005 after completing a Bachelor of Science in social science and government at Campbell University in 2000. His academic path combined interest in public affairs with practical legal training. Those early choices set a clear direction for a career split between service and private practice.

Kurylo's legal career traces back to a stint in uniform. He served as a legal services specialist in the United States Marine Corps beginning in 1998. That role introduced him to legal issues in institutional settings and to an approach to practice shaped by procedure and discipline. He later moved into the civilian legal sector as a paralegal at Livesay & Myers in 2003, and was promoted to an associate lawyer at the same firm in 2007.

By 2008 he had established Kurylo Law Office PLLC, marking his first independent step as a practicing lawyer. He next formed partnerships that altered the scale and scope of his work. In 2010 he joined as partner at Strickland Kurylo PLC. Two years later he helped create Kurylo Gold & Josey, PLC, where he was a partner beginning in 2012. In 2020, he took another turn in his partnership path and became a partner at Select Law Partners, PLLC.

Throughout his career he maintained ties to broader professional networks. He has been a member of the American Bar Association since 2007 and has belonged to the Fredericksburg Area Bar Association over the same period. He is licensed to practice in Virginia and has handled matters that required navigation of state court procedures and local legal practice norms.

Colleagues say Kurylo brings a steady, procedural approach to the cases he handles. His progression from military legal specialist to paralegal, then associate and partner, reflects a hands-on development of courtroom and client skills. He has spent years building a practice that runs through several firms and partnerships, adapting to different firm structures and client needs along the way.

Kurylo now practices from the Fredericksburg area as part of Select Law Partners, PLLC. He continues to represent clients in matters brought in Virginia courts and before state agencies, applying the mix of institutional and private practice experience he has accumulated over more than two decades of work in the law.
