About Matthew
Matthew Meyerkord built a legal foundation at the University of Missouri, earning a B.A. in 2001 before completing his J.D. at the University of Missouri - Kansas City School of Law in 2004. Those years included practical courtroom exposure. In 2003 he served as a Rule-13 certified intern in the Public Defender Trial Clinic, an experience that put him in front of judges and juries while still in law school.
After graduation he moved briefly into the courthouse itself, taking a position as a law clerk to the Honorable Michael W. Manners at the Jackson County Circuit Court, Division Two, in 2004. That year of clerkship gave him an inside view of case management and judicial decision-making. The next step was private practice. In 2005 he joined Meyerkord, Rineberg & Graham, LLC as an associate, handling litigation matters and gaining hands-on trial experience.
Over the years his role at the firm evolved. He later became a partner at Meyerkord, Russell & Hergott. As a partner he has combined courtroom work with case preparation and client counseling. His background—defense clinic work, a judicial clerkship, and early years as an associate—shaped his approach to litigation. He is comfortable in courtrooms and in depositions, and he has experience managing cases through all stages of litigation.
Outside the office he is active in professional organizations that deal heavily in trial advocacy. He holds current memberships in the Missouri Bar, the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, the Clay County Bar Association, and the Eastern Jackson County Bar Association. He has been involved with the Missouri Association of Trial Lawyers’ Public Awareness Committee since 2007, and he co-chaired its New Lawyers Committee from 2007 to 2008. At the national level he was elected to the Board of Governors of the American Association for Justice in 2014 and has served there since.
Those memberships reflect a practice rooted in courtroom procedure and advocacy. He continues his work at Meyerkord, Russell & Hergott, where he manages litigation matters and represents clients in trial courts.
