About Matthew J.
Matthew J. Bilker earned his J.D. from Widener University Commonwealth Law School in 2011 after completing a B.A. in political science and journalism at Pennsylvania State University in 2007. His academic background married reporting and public affairs. That combination has shaped a practice that moves between government work and community institutions.
He launched his legal career in the courthouse. In 2013 he served as a judicial clerk to the Honorable John P. Capuzzi, Sr., an experience that exposed him to trial procedure and judicial decision-making. That same year he joined Eckell, Sparks, Levy, Auerbach, Monte, Sloane, Matthews & Auslander, P.C., where he handled matters typical of a regional firm. He later took on editorial duties for the Delaware County Legal Journal in 2015, a role that involved curating and clarifying developments in local law for practitioners and officials.
Bilker moved steadily into public-sector practice and local governance. He has served as Assistant County Solicitor in Delaware County’s Office of the Solicitor, advising county officials on statutory and administrative issues. He has also been active in the Marple Newtown School District, serving on its board of directors in 2014 and later on the district’s Human Resources and Policy Committee as vice president. Those roles placed him at the intersection of employment policy, school governance, and municipal regulation.
Outside official roles, Bilker participates in several professional and civic organizations. He is a member of the State Bar of Pennsylvania and the Delaware County Bar Association, and he sits on the executive board of the DCBA Young Lawyers’ Section. He belongs to the Guy G. deFuria Chapter of the American Inns of Court and holds membership in the Pennsylvania Association for Justice. He is also involved locally through The Broomall Rotary Club. These memberships reflect sustained engagement with both the legal profession and the communities he serves.
Admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, Bilker combines courtroom experience, municipal advising, and school-district work in his day-to-day practice. He maintains offices in West Chester and Media and continues to handle matters that arise at the intersection of government operations, education policy, and civil practice. His current practice centers on municipal law, school district policy, and related government affairs.
