About Matthew

Matthew Gilpin earned his law degree from Texas Wesleyan University School of Law in 2010 after completing undergraduate studies at Texas State University in 1999. He moved from the academic setting into practice quickly. The trajectory of his early career reflects a lawyer who went straight to work after law school rather than taking time away from the profession.

He launched Gilpin Law in 2010, the same year he graduated. That step put him into the role of solo practitioner and business owner at an early stage of his career. Running a small practice required handling both client matters and the administrative side of a law firm. Those responsibilities shaped how he approaches case management and client communication.

In 2018 Gilpin joined McCathern, PLLC and took on the role of partner. The move placed him in a larger firm setting and into shared leadership. As partner he has taken on matters for the firm and contributed to supervising files and coordinating with colleagues. The shift from solo practice to partnership broadened the range of work he handles and the resources available to his clients.

He is licensed to practice in Texas and maintains current membership in the State Bar of Texas. His work is conducted in the jurisdiction where he is admitted, and he handles matters that arise under Texas law. Membership in the state bar keeps him connected to the professional community and the continuing education requirements that attend active practice.

Those who work with him describe a straightforward approach to legal problems. He favors clear explanations over jargon and aims to present options in plain terms so clients can make decisions. In the office he balances casework with the administrative duties that come from having been both an owner and a partner. That experience informs how he sets priorities and allocates time to individual matters.

He founded Gilpin Law and later joined McCathern, PLLC, becoming a partner there in 2018. He currently practices at McCathern, PLLC in Texas.
