About Matthew
Matthew DeGioia earned his Juris Doctor from The George Washington University Law School. He arrived in Washington with a legal education grounded in federal and local institutions. His time at GWU Law supplied the academic foundation he would draw on in a practice spanning three adjacent jurisdictions.
He began his professional career at Andalman and Flynn, where he served as a law clerk in 2015. The clerkship introduced him to firm practice and courtroom procedures. He remained at Andalman and Flynn and returned as an associate lawyer in 2020, taking on greater responsibilities and a broader client load.
In 2023 he became a partner at Seddiq DeGioia. That partnership marked a shift into firm leadership and case management at a higher level. His colleagues at the time relied on him for complex day-to-day decisions and for mentoring more junior lawyers. The move into partnership followed several years of hands-on experience in a busy practice environment.
Today he operates out of DeGioia Law, PLLC. He is licensed to practice in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia, and those admissions shape the geographic reach of his work. The three-jurisdiction license allows him to handle matters that cross state and local lines, and to advise clients on procedural and jurisdictional questions that arise in the region.
Clients and fellow attorneys describe him as practical and direct in dealings. He tends to favor clear, plainspoken explanations over complex legalese. That approach reflects a steady progression from law clerk to associate to partner and now to the head of his own firm. It also reflects the environment in which he trained: a mix of local practice and broad legal education in the nation’s capital.
He has built a practice that reflects continuity as well as change. The early years at Andalman and Flynn grounded him in firm-based practice. Partnership at Seddiq DeGioia expanded his management role. His current work at DeGioia Law, PLLC centers on serving clients across the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia, where he handles a range of matters aligned with his licensure and experience.
