About Matt
Matt Harman built a career that moves from numbers to courtrooms. He earned a B.S. in mathematics from the University of Kentucky in 1996 and a J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1999. Those years set a technical foundation and introduced him to the federal policy world before he entered private practice.
Early in his legal training Harman spent time at the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy as an intern in 1998. That experience gave him a firsthand look at how policy and law intersect in federal agencies. He went into private practice after law school and was associated with King & Spalding beginning in 1999. Records list him as a partner there in 1999, a role that placed him in a large firm environment at the outset of his career.
In 2010 he founded Harman Law LLC. The move created a firm where he could shape practice priorities and take on matters across multiple jurisdictions. He maintains active bar memberships in West Virginia, Georgia and the District of Columbia. He is also listed as a current member of the West Virginia State Bar, the State Bar of Georgia and the District of Columbia Bar. Outside the day-to-day of client work he participates in professional organizations. He serves on the editorial board of Verdict Magazine for the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association and is a member of the American Association for Justice.
Harman’s background in mathematics informs how he approaches legal problems. He tends to bring a methodical, evidence-based perspective to case development and strategy. Peers and colleagues note that his training supports detailed analysis of documents and complex factual records. His combination of federal policy exposure, large firm practice and independent firm leadership gives him a broad view of how cases unfold at different levels of the system.
Today he practices through Harman Law LLC, handling matters across the jurisdictions where he is licensed. He continues to participate in professional associations and editorial work while managing the firm’s caseload. His current practice focuses on litigation matters in the jurisdictions where he is admitted.
