About Mary E.
Mary E. Bono began her professional journey at the intersection of storytelling and persuasion. She earned a Bachelor of Journalism with an emphasis in advertising from the University of Missouri–Columbia. That grounding in clear writing and audience awareness preceded a decision to study law. She completed her J.D. at the University of Massachusetts School of Law–Dartmouth.
After law school she helped establish a practice that has grown into a small firm serving clients across Massachusetts. She is a founding partner of Bono & McMahon. As a founding partner she has been involved in both the legal work and the practical demands of running a firm: assembling a team, managing client matters, and shaping office procedures. Those duties sit alongside courtroom preparation and client counseling.
Her background in journalism informs how she approaches legal work. She prioritizes careful drafting and direct communication. She pays attention to how facts are presented and how arguments will land with an audience. That combination of skills proves useful whether preparing pleadings, briefing issues, or explaining options to a client.
Bono has been active in local and statewide professional organizations. She is a member of the Bristol County Bar Association, the Massachusetts Bar Association, and the Boston Bar Association. Within the Bristol County Bar Association she serves on the Board of Directors representing the Young Lawyer Division. Those roles have given her a platform to participate in educational programs and to engage in the practical concerns of newer lawyers.
Colleagues describe her as steady in the courtroom and methodical in file preparation. She is known for taking time to lay out next steps plainly for clients. She has handled a range of matters in Massachusetts courts and administrative forums. Her practice has required negotiation, motion practice, and trial preparation when cases moved forward.
Outside the office she has continued to strengthen local ties through bar activity and community engagement. She remains connected to alumni networks from both Missouri and the UMass School of Law. Those connections inform how she staffs matters and refers work when a client’s needs fall outside the firm’s capabilities.
She practices law in Massachusetts as a founding partner at Bono & McMahon. Her current practice centers on representing clients in Massachusetts courts and advising them on legal strategy.
