About Marlys A.
Marlys A. Bergstrom studied literature before turning to law. She earned a B.A. in English Literature from California State University, Chico in 1982 and an M.A. in English Literature from San Francisco State University in 1988. She completed her J.D. at Golden Gate University School of Law in 1996. The path from literature to law set a pattern: close reading, careful writing and a steady appetite for complex documents.
Her early career moved into large professional services and consulting. In 1997 she served as a director at Deloitte. She later held a director role at PricewaterhouseCoopers in 2004. That experience in corporate settings gave her exposure to regulatory and compliance work as well as internal client counseling. In 2010 she returned to firm practice as a lawyer at Sutherland Asbill & Brennan. In 2014 she established Bergstrom Law and took on the dual role of founder and lawyer. In 2021 she worked at Stearns-Montgomery & Proctor. The sequence shows a shift from corporate director roles back to practicing law and then to running a small firm.
