About Marla

Marla Soffer practices law in Pennsylvania and New York, combining courtroom experience with sustained involvement in the arts community. She earned a B.A. in Urban Studies and Spanish from the University of Pennsylvania and a J.D. from Temple University Beasley School of Law. Those early academic choices — urban issues and a second language — continue to surface in her professional work and community engagement.

After law school she built a practice that spans federal and state courts. She is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and before the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, and the Supreme Court of New York. Over the years she has combined litigation and client counseling, moving between courtroom advocacy and transactional matters as circumstances required.

Her name appears on the roster at Galfand Berger, LLP, where she serves as Of Counsel. That affiliation sits alongside a long record of volunteer work and nonprofit board service. She has held positions on the board of directors for the Philadelphia Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts and for the Arts & Business Council of Greater Philadelphia. She has also served as a volunteer lawyer for both organizations. At one point she served on a board that included membership in the Nexus Foundation for Today’s Art. Those roles have kept her connected to artists, small nonprofits, and community institutions.

Soffer is active in organized bar groups. She maintains membership in the State Bar of Pennsylvania and in the Pennsylvania Association for Justice. Those associations reflect an ongoing engagement with professional development and peer networks across civil litigation and trial practice.

She works from several locations in eastern Pennsylvania, including offices in Philadelphia, Reading, Lancaster, and the Allentown-Bethlehem area, and keeps an additional presence at the USW Local 6996 Hall. That geographic spread allows her to meet clients across different communities and to handle matters that require both local knowledge and federal court access.

Her practice blends courtroom representation, counseling for artists and arts organizations, and general civil litigation and employment-related matters. She continues to take on cases and client matters that intersect law, business, and the cultural sector, and she maintains an active practice through her Of Counsel role at Galfand Berger, LLP.
