About Mark
Mark Polson earned his law degree from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in 1974 after completing undergraduate studies at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1971. Those academic years set the foundation for a long career practicing in Alabama courts. He kept close ties to legal institutions in the state and the region throughout his career.
He is a member of the Alabama State Bar and holds memberships in several national and state criminal defense organizations. Those include the National College of DUI Defense and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He also belongs to the Alabama Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and the Birmingham Bar Association. The group affiliations reflect the kinds of matters he regularly handles in courtrooms across Alabama.
Polson practices at Polson & Polson, P.C. The firm carries his name and is the primary base for his work. Over the years his caseload has included criminal defense and driving-under-the-influence matters. He represents clients at arraignments, pretrial hearings, plea negotiations and trials. He also appears for post-conviction proceedings when clients seek to challenge or modify sentences.
Colleagues describe him as steady in the courtroom and methodical in preparation. He takes evidence, procedure and precedent seriously. That approach shows in how he presents motion practice and cross-examination. He does not rely on flash. He builds a factual record and tests the prosecution’s case point by point.
Outside of litigation, he participates in professional exchanges and continuing education through the organizations that admit him. Those memberships provide him with updates on DUI science, criminal procedure developments and appellate trends. He regularly attends events and seminars relevant to criminal defense, and he keeps a steady presence in the local bar community.
Clients who come to his office find a lawyer comfortable in both contested hearings and negotiated resolutions. He evaluates investigative reports, consults experts when needed, and prepares defenses intended for trial or for plea bargaining. He also assists clients in understanding the practical consequences of different paths in a criminal case.
He currently practices at Polson & Polson, P.C., handling criminal and DUI defense matters in Alabama.
