About Mark J.
Mark J. Shaw builds a practice on steady, long-term involvement in the law and in his community. He earned his B.A. from Juniata College in 1984 and his J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1987. Those years set the stage for a career that spans state and federal courts across Pennsylvania and Ohio.
He is admitted to practice in Ohio and Pennsylvania, and he holds admission to the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Over the years he has taken on matters that require handling litigation and court procedures at multiple levels of the judiciary. He brings courtroom experience where federal and state systems intersect, and he can appear before district and appellate panels when cases require that step.
Shaw is a partner at MacDonald, Illig, Jones & Britton. His role at the firm places him among the lawyers who manage client matters and contribute to firm strategy. Colleagues describe him as methodical and steady in approach; clients have relied on him for detailed courtroom work and for handling procedural complexities that arise in multi-jurisdiction matters.
Outside the office he keeps a visible civic profile. He serves on the Board of Directors of the United Way of Erie County and sits on its Leadership Giving Committee. He has led other community organizations, including a past presidency of the Northwest Pennsylvania Chapter of the Air & Waste Management Association and a past chairmanship of the Erie Irish Festival. He has also served as past president of the Asbury Woods Partnership board and currently holds leadership roles in the Asbury Woods Estates Homeowners Association as vice president and treasurer.
Shaw stays active with professional groups as well. He holds memberships in the American Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the Pennsylvania State Bar, the Erie County Bar Association and the Allegheny County Bar Association. At the local level he participates on the Millcreek Township School District Citizen Advisory Committee. These roles keep him connected to developments in law and public policy that touch his firm’s work.
Those who work with him see a lawyer who balances courtroom duties with community leadership. He is a partner at MacDonald, Illig, Jones & Britton; his practice concentrates on representing clients in Ohio and Pennsylvania state courts and in federal courts, including the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania and the Third Circuit.
