About Mario
Mario Tafur trained as a philosopher before turning to law. He earned a B.A. in Philosophy from Northern Arizona University in 1994 and later took his law degree at the James E. Rogers College of Law at the University of Arizona, receiving his J.D. in 1998. The arc from liberal arts to legal training informs his approach to problem solving and the way he frames legal questions.
Tafur’s early career threaded through national nonprofit work. In 1999 he joined Amnesty International USA as Membership Program Coordinator for the Western Region, a role that led to work as Associate Director for Artists for Amnesty in 2002. Those positions placed him at the intersection of advocacy, outreach and organizational program management. In 2005 he moved into the private sector as Executive Vice President at Magic Lantern Entertainment where he oversaw projects tied to the entertainment world. A decade later he served as Executive Director of Modern Spirit, an organization that combined cultural programming and management responsibilities.
In 2019 Tafur launched his own practice as Lawyer at the Law Office of Mario P Tafur. That step marked a formal shift into the legal profession as his primary occupation. Running a solo practice required him to draw on his earlier administrative and leadership experience. It also meant adapting nonprofit and entertainment industry sensibilities to the day-to-day demands of serving clients.
Colleagues and clients describe Tafur as methodical in his approach. He pays attention to detail and prefers clear, direct communication. His background gives him a practical grasp of organizational issues and the kinds of compliance and contract matters that can arise in nonprofits and media enterprises. He has spent time on program development, stakeholder coordination and executive-level management, and those threads are evident in the way he organizes cases and client work.
Tafur is licensed to practice in California and has maintained his practice in that jurisdiction since founding his law office. He balances casework with ongoing involvement in civic and cultural projects, drawing on two decades of work across advocacy and entertainment. He currently handles legal matters from his California practice and continues to serve clients through his own law office.
