About Mari A.
Mari A. Irwin runs a small law firm in Alabama and has done so for more than a decade. She set up Mari A. Irwin, P.C. in 2012 after several years of practice. Those years shaped how she approaches cases now: calmly, methodically and with attention to procedure.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and sociology from Tulane University in 1997. She later studied law at Cumberland School of Law at Samford University and received her J.D. in 2008. The combination of social science and legal training informs how she assesses client needs and the interpersonal dynamics that often appear in disputes.
Irwin began her legal career as an associate at the Birmingham firm William P. Burgess, Jr., P.C. in 2008. That role put her into day-to-day litigation and client counseling early on. In 2012 she opened her own practice in Alabama. Running her own office meant shifting from a supporting role to one that required managing both casework and the business side of a firm.
She has been involved in local and state bar activities. From 2010 to 2012 she chaired the Women’s Section of the Huntsville-Madison County Bar Association. In 2013 she joined the Alabama Supreme Court Committee on Collaborative Law Rules of Procedure, a role she continues to hold. Those positions have kept her engaged in discussions about how lawyers and judges handle settlements and cooperative dispute-resolution processes.
Clients and colleagues describe her as measured in court and practical in negotiation. She prepares for hearings and mediations in detail. She also pays attention to procedural rules, an interest reflected in her committee work on collaborative law procedures. She balances courtroom work with efforts to resolve matters outside trial when possible.
Today Irwin practices through Mari A. Irwin, P.C. in Alabama. She maintains an active role in the bar committee on collaborative law rules and draws on that experience in handling collaborative law matters in her practice.
