About Jonathan A.
Jonathan A. Blackwell studied in Alabama from the start. He earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Alabama in 1994 and continued at the University of Alabama School of Law, graduating in 1997. Those years set the foundation for a legal career rooted in state practice and local professional ties.
After law school he entered practice in Alabama. Over time he concentrated his work on criminal defense. He moved into courtroom work, handling hearings, motions practice and jury trials. He represents people facing a range of criminal charges and handles the procedural steps that follow an arrest through sentencing.
Blackwell is a partner at Crumbley-Blackwell & Associates, P.C. He practices as a criminal defense lawyer at the firm and shares responsibility for case strategy and client counsel. The partnership role means he balances courtroom time with the supervision of other attorneys and the administrative demands of running a law office.
He maintains formal ties to the profession. He is a member of the Alabama State Bar Association and belongs to the Huntsville-Madison County Bar Association. Those memberships keep him connected to continuing legal education and the practical issues that affect trial lawyers in the state.
Colleagues describe his courtroom style as direct and unadorned. He organizes cases around evidence and procedure. He prepares witnesses, researches legal issues and argues motions when the facts or law demand it. He also handles plea discussions and seeks resolution where that approach best serves a client’s interests while reserving trial when necessary.
Outside the courtroom he remains engaged in local legal circles. He participates in association events and associates with other practitioners in Madison County and beyond. He currently practices criminal defense at Crumbley-Blackwell & Associates, P.C.
