About Margaret

Margaret Galka entered the law after an undergraduate degree in political science from the University of Vermont and a J.D. from Vermont Law School in 2018. Her academic path combined classroom study with hands-on clinic work. She left law school having worked directly on environmental and energy matters at the clinic level.

During her time at Vermont Law School she served as a student clinician in the Institute for Energy and Environment in 2016 and later in the Environment and Natural Resources Law Clinic in 2017. Those placements put her in contact with regulatory documents, stakeholder meetings and the day-to-day work of preparing matters for administrative review. She also spent a summer in 2017 clerking at Dunkiel Saunders Elliott Raubvogel & Hand, where she assisted attorneys on research and drafting tasks. Before law school she organized campaigns for Illinois PIRG in 2014, an early role that exposed her to public policy and grassroots advocacy.

After receiving her law degree she joined The Collins Law Office, P.C. as a lawyer in 2018. She is admitted to practice in Illinois and has practiced there since joining the firm. Her work at the firm has been built on the clinic experiences and early clerkship projects that characterized her legal training.

Galka’s practice draws on the overlap between environmental regulation and energy policy. She works on matters that involve regulatory filings, compliance questions and interactions with administrative agencies. The training she received in Vermont emphasized both substantive legal analysis and practical problem solving. That background informs how she evaluates cases and prepares submissions for regulators or opposing parties.

Colleagues describe her as methodical in legal research and precise in written advocacy. She tends to favor direct, practical solutions and clear communication with clients. The campaign work she did before law school shapes how she thinks about public-facing issues and community concerns, especially when projects touch on local resources or public infrastructure.

She remains based at The Collins Law Office, P.C., where she continues to handle environmental and energy matters in Illinois. Her current practice concentrates on environmental and energy law matters.
