About Norman B.
Norman B. Berger earned his J.D. from DePaul College of Law in 1981 after completing undergraduate work at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He took the customary route from law school into practice and built a career that spans trial and appellate work in both federal and state courts. His legal education remains a frequent reference point in his professional life.
Berger has been admitted to practice in Wisconsin and Illinois. He is also admitted to the U.S. Supreme Court and has litigated in federal trial and appellate courts. Those admissions reflect a practice that has moved between trial rooms and appellate briefs for many years. He has handled courtroom work as well as legal advocacy before appellate panels.
He joined The Collins Law Office, P.C. as of counsel in 2021. That role followed decades of practice that included courtroom appearances and appellate filings, although the record here does not catalogue every prior position. At The Collins Law Office he continues to handle litigation while advising on appellate strategy and procedural matters.
Outside of firm practice, Berger has maintained connections to legal education and training. He serves on the faculty of the National Institute of Trial Advocacy, teaching trial techniques and courtroom procedure to newer practitioners. He also remains active in the DePaul University College of Law community, where he engages with alumni and programming tied to the school.
Public service has been a recurring element of Berger’s career. He was a founding participant in the Cook County Pro Bono Committee for Representation of Indigent Defendants. That involvement put him alongside other lawyers who sought to expand access to counsel in criminal cases and to refine systems for pro bono criminal representation.
Berger’s years in practice give him experience across a range of litigation settings. He has handled matters at trial and on appeal and in federal and state venues. His work includes courtroom advocacy and preparation of appellate briefs, and he has combined those skills in cases that required both fact development and legal argument.
He is of counsel at The Collins Law Office, P.C., where his practice includes federal and state litigation and appellate work.
