About Marcus Aurelius
Marcus Aurelius Nussbaum earned his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School. He completed the rigorous curriculum there and moved into practice in the New York–New Jersey legal market.
He is licensed to practice in New Jersey and New York and is admitted to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Those credentials allow him to appear in state courts on both sides of the Hudson and on federal matters that reach the appellate level.
Nussbaum's early years in practice were shaped by courtroom work and appellate procedure. He developed an understanding of how trial records, evidentiary rulings and procedural posture affect an appeal. Over time he added client counseling and motion practice to his routine, often translating complex legal positions into written arguments.
Peers describe him as someone who prioritizes clarity in pleadings and briefs. He favors plain, direct writing over ornate language. That approach reflects a larger orientation toward practical results rather than theoretical exercises. He is comfortable addressing both the technicalities of appellate jurisprudence and the practical demands of litigation in state and federal trial courts.
His work spans matters that require attention to both factual record and appellate standards. He has navigated procedural hurdles common to multi-jurisdictional practice, such as removal, jurisdictional questions and enforcement across state lines. He also guides clients through the mechanics of federal appeals where timing and preservation of issues are critical.
Outside the courtroom, Nussbaum engages in continuing legal education to stay current on changes in procedure and substantive law affecting his practice areas. He maintains professional relationships across the New York and New Jersey bars and participates in forums where trial and appellate practitioners trade practical insights.
Today he practices in the tri-state legal environment, handling matters that arise in New Jersey and New York and pursuing appellate relief in the Second Circuit when appropriate. His current practice concentrates on litigation and appellate work across those jurisdictions.
