About Leonard A

Leonard A Englander earned a business degree from Providence College in 2005 and a J.D. from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law in 2013. He entered law school after several years of undergraduate study and completed his legal education in the early 2010s. Those academic years set the stage for a practice rooted in direct client work and public-interest causes.

His early legal experience began in 2014, when he served as a staff lawyer for the Sexual Assault Legal Institute. There he worked on matters that required close client contact, careful file development and an understanding of the sensitive dynamics involved in sexual assault cases. That same year he also volunteered at the Legal Aid Bureau, Inc., taking on cases that reflected the everyday legal needs of Maryland residents who rely on nonprofit services.

In 2016 he opened his own firm and became the lead lawyer and principal of the Law Office of Leonard A. Englander, Esq., LLC. Running a small firm required him to combine casework with the administrative responsibilities of an owner. Court appearances, client counseling, case preparation and the practical business of law practice have all been part of his daily routine since establishing the office.

Throughout his career he has maintained membership in the State Bar of Maryland. That affiliation places him among the licensed practitioners authorized to practice in the state. His practice history — from nonprofit settings to private practice — shows a pattern of work centered on civil matters that intersect with public-interest concerns.

Colleagues and clients have encountered him most often in settings that demand plainspoken legal explanation and steady courtroom presence. Cases he handled at the Sexual Assault Legal Institute required careful evidentiary work and attention to clients’ immediate needs. The Legal Aid Bureau volunteer work exposed him to landlord-tenant disputes, benefits cases and other household legal problems faced by low- and moderate-income residents.

As the principal of his own firm, he continues to balance individual representation and the operational aspects of running a legal office. He maintains an active membership in the State Bar of Maryland and conducts his practice from his Maryland office, where he handles matters that include sexual assault-related cases and civil legal aid work.
