About Lauren

Lauren Balkcom trained as a lawyer in Rhode Island and took her legal degree at Roger Williams University School of Law, earning her J.D. in 2014. She moved through law school during a time of change in the local bar, and emerged with a grounding in courtroom procedure and legal writing. Those practical elements marked her early years after graduation.

Her professional life is rooted in Rhode Island’s legal community. She holds membership in the Rhode Island Bar Association and the American Bar Association. She also participates in the Federal Bar Association and belongs to the Federal Bench/Bar of Rhode Island as well as the Criminal Bench/Bar of Rhode Island. In addition, she is part of the Government Lawyers Committee in Rhode Island. Those affiliations reflect steady participation in both statewide and federal professional networks.

Colleagues describe Balkcom as attentive to procedural detail and persistent in developing case strategies. She has handled matters that intersect with federal practice and state criminal procedure, drawing on the networks she maintains in each sphere. Her work requires keeping up with evolving rules and precedents, and she meets that demand through committee work and continuing education offered by the bar groups she joins.

Balkcom’s membership on the Government Lawyers Committee places her alongside lawyers who represent public entities and handle regulatory or administrative questions. At the same time, her involvement in the Criminal Bench/Bar connects her to issues that arise in criminal dockets and trial settings. That dual orientation gives her experience with both courtroom practice and the particular concerns of government clients.

She has also engaged with national professional resources through the American Bar Association and through the Federal Bar Association. Those connections have allowed her to follow changes in federal procedure and to compare practice approaches across jurisdictions. She uses that perspective when preparing filings and when coordinating with colleagues in federal or state courts.

As of 2026 Lauren Balkcom practices law in Rhode Island, maintaining active ties to local and federal bar communities and concentrating her practice on matters that arise in Rhode Island state and federal courts.
