About Larry

Larry Sandefer built a long career in the courtroom after completing a traditional path through higher education. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Management and Marketing from Auburn University in 1972 and a Juris Doctor from the University of Florida in 1977. Those credentials set the stage for work that would center on criminal trial practice and public service.

Sandefer spent a substantial portion of his career in the State Lawyers Office, Sixth Circuit, where he rose to serve as Division Director and Lead Trial Lawyer. In that role he handled serious criminal cases and oversaw trial preparation across the circuit. His title reflected both supervisory responsibilities and regular courtroom appearances. He led teams of attorneys and worked on matters that required coordination among prosecutors, investigators and support staff.

He is certified in criminal trial law by the Florida Bar, a credential that marks sustained involvement in the trial side of criminal practice. Sandefer is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court and in the state of Florida. Those admissions have allowed him to appear in a range of proceedings, from trial courts up through higher appellate matters when necessary.

Colleagues describe him as an attorney who prefers the facts and the record to rhetoric. In court he has focused on evidence, witness credibility and procedural integrity. Outside the courtroom he invested time in mentoring junior lawyers and in the administrative work that comes with directing a trial division. That combination of litigation and management shaped his approach to high-stakes criminal matters.

Over the years Sandefer handled a variety of cases that tested both strategy and stamina. Trial calendars, discovery disputes and pretrial motions were familiar parts of his docket. He worked in an environment where deadlines mattered and where decisions on evidence and procedure often decided outcomes. He approached those challenges through methodical preparation and steady courtroom presence.

Now, as of 2026, Sandefer continues to concentrate on criminal trial work in Florida and maintains admission to the U.S. Supreme Court. His practice remains grounded in courtroom litigation and in the procedural skills that trial work demands.
