About Kristi
Kristi Baker built a law practice out of an early interest in written and civic life. She read English at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and later turned to law, completing her J.D. at Hamline University School of Law in 2014. Those two educations—one in literature, the other in law—shape the way she explains complex rules in simple terms.
Her undergraduate degree in English was awarded in 1992 at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. More than a decade later she enrolled at Hamline, completing the law degree in 2014. The sequence of degrees reflects a long lead-up to a legal career rather than a straight, immediate path from college to law school.
She joined The Law Center, S.C. as a lawyer in 2015. The record shows she began practice there the year after earning her J.D. Since arriving, she has balanced court work with case preparation and community-facing projects. Colleagues describe her as methodical in case analysis and careful in courtroom presentation. She has taken on matters that require coordination with schools, social workers, and public agencies.
Baker’s involvement outside the office complements the work she does in it. She served on the board of Wisconsin Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) from 2014 to 2018. She has been a board member of the Children and Law Section of the State Bar since 2018, and she joined the Dane County Bar Association in 2019. She participates in the Dane County Bar Association’s Law for Public Committee, a role she has held since 2016. Since 2015 she has been connected with the Student Expulsion Prevention Project (StePP). Those memberships indicate a sustained interest in legal issues affecting young people and families.
Her professional routine mixes litigation tasks and cooperative work with community programs. She spends time preparing pleadings and motions, meeting with clients, and coordinating with local agencies. She also contributes to committee work and training that aim to improve how the legal system handles matters involving children and education.
Now in practice at The Law Center, S.C., she continues to handle cases that intersect with child welfare and education systems. Her current work centers on legal matters involving children, families, and schools.
