About Emily Dudak
Emily Dudak Leiter built a legal path that began in political science and turned to law. She earned a B.A. in political science from Arizona State University in 2000. She later completed her J.D. at Tulane University School of Law in 2005.
Her early years after law school went straight into practice. In 2005 she joined The Law Center, S.C. as a lawyer and partner. That step put her into day-to-day work on matters that intersect family life and immigration law. Over time her caseload developed around issues that affect family formation, parental rights, and immigration status.
Leiter’s professional affiliations reflect how her practice evolved. She is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and of a national association focused on LGBT legal matters. Since 2011 she has been a Fellow of the Academy of Adoption & Assisted Reproduction Lawyers. Those memberships point to an ongoing engagement with both the immigration bar and practitioners who handle adoption and assisted reproduction legal questions.
Colleagues describe her approach as practical and detail-oriented. She handles paperwork that must be precise: visa petitions, petitions for parental recognition, adoption decrees and assisted reproduction agreements. Clients often need clear explanations about processes that combine federal immigration rules and state family law. She works through each step, explaining requirements and possible outcomes.
In court and at administrative hearings she represents individuals and families seeking lawful recognition of parental relationships and lawful immigration status. She also prepares and reviews the legal documents that clinics, couples and third-party caregivers use to establish parentage and guardianship. The combination of immigration and family law creates frequent overlaps, and her work often sits at that intersection.
Outside of casework she participates in professional meetings and continuing legal education tied to adoption, assisted reproduction, and immigration practice. Those settings provide updates on shifting rules and recent decisions that affect clients. She has maintained her role at The Law Center, S.C. since joining the firm, where she continues to represent clients in immigration matters, LGBT family law, and adoption and assisted reproduction cases.
