About Kevin
Kevin Whiteley built a path into law that threads through federal law enforcement, courtroom work and private practice. He earned a B.A. in political science and economics from the University of Missouri–Columbia in 1987, then completed an M.A. in criminal justice and security management at George Washington University’s Virginia campus in 1994. He returned to school for a J.D. from Washington University School of Law, graduating in 2006.
His early professional life was in enforcement. He served as a U.S. Border Patrol agent in 1996 and joined the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives as a special agent and criminal investigator in 1999. Those roles involved field investigations and case development. After law school he gained courtroom-side experience as a judicial intern for the Supreme Court of Michigan in 2006 and worked as a law clerk at The Brasher Law Office in 2007. He entered public defense in 2009 as an assistant public defender with the Office of the State Public Defender.
Whiteley moved into private practice soon after. He served as managing partner at Labovitz & Whiteley, LLC in 2011 and established Whiteley Law Office, LLC in 2012. That same year he is recorded as taking a partner role at Shepherd Taylor Korum LLP. Over the years he has shifted between solo and firm practice, carrying experience from both public and private roles into his legal work.
He is an active member of the legal community in St. Louis. He has been a member of the Missouri Bar since 2008 and belongs to the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis. He also holds memberships in the St. Louis County Bar Association and the Kirkwood-Des Peres Chamber of Commerce. Since 2011 he has volunteered as a lawyer for St. Louis County Older Resident Programs (CORP), providing pro bono legal assistance to older residents.
That mix of investigative work and courtroom practice informs how he approaches cases. His background in criminal investigation and service as a public defender give him experience in trial preparation, evidence issues and client advocacy. Colleagues and clients encounter an attorney comfortable with both investigation and litigation. He currently practices through Whiteley Law Office, LLC and concentrates his practice on criminal defense and related litigation matters.
