About Kenneth I.
Kenneth I. Kolpan's path to law began in the northeast. He earned a B.A. from the University of Rochester in 1968 and a J.D. from Boston College Law School in 1972. Those credentials led him into a career that has bridged medicine, advocacy, and courtroom work.
Early in his career he stepped into academia. In 1979 he served as an assistant professor in community medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine. That period exposed him to the clinical side of injury and rehabilitation and informed the direction his litigation work would take. Two years later he founded his own firm, establishing the Law Office of Kenneth I. Kolpan, P.C., in 1981.
Over the decades that followed, Kolpan built a practice centered on serious, life-changing injury cases. He has been active in organizations that bring together legal and medical perspectives on brain injury. He served as co-chairman of the North American Brain Injury Society’s legal conference in 1988 and, more recently, joined the Executive Committee of the Traumatic Brain Injury Litigation Group of the American Association for Justice in 2015. His involvement with the Brain Injury Association of Massachusetts goes back to 1981, where he served as president and remains an executive board member.
Kolpan’s professional memberships span state and national groups. He has been a member of the Massachusetts State Bar since 1972 and has maintained membership in the Massachusetts Bar Association and the Massachusetts Association of Trial Lawyers since the mid-1980s. He also belongs to the American Association for Justice and the National Crime Victims Bar Association, where he has been listed as a sponsor. From 2013 through 2019 he was recognized in the National Trial Lawyers Top 100 roster.
Peers and directories have acknowledged Kolpan’s standing in the profession. He holds an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell and has been named a Super Lawyer in both Massachusetts and New England. Those listings reflect long-term involvement in complex civil litigation rather than any single accolade.
His practice blends courtroom experience, connections to medical experts, and long-term involvement in brain-injury organizations. He has litigated in state courts and appears in matters before the 1st Circuit. He continues to lead the Law Office of Kenneth I. Kolpan, P.C., and his practice concentrates on traumatic brain injury and catastrophic-injury cases, including representation of crime victims.
