About Katie Jean

Katie Jean Comstock built her legal credentials on two Pacific Northwest law schools. She earned a J.D. from Gonzaga University School of Law in 2008 and followed that with an LL.M. in Taxation from the University of Washington School of Law in 2009. Those degrees set the stage for a practice grounded in federal and state tax rules.

After completing her graduate work in taxation, Comstock began her career in Washington. She is admitted to practice in that state and has spent her career working on matters that turn on tax law and its practical effects. Her training in both a J.D. program and a specialized LL.M. gives her a technical footing that clients and colleagues rely on when questions get detailed.

Comstock’s work has included tax planning and compliance for individuals and businesses. She also handles tax controversy and dispute matters, advising on documentation, deadlines and communications with tax authorities. Her approach is steady and methodical. She breaks complex statutes and regulations into discrete issues that can be addressed in sequence.

Colleagues describe her as pragmatic in handling cases and transactions. She tends to focus on clarity in written analysis and in client-facing explanations. That preference for clear writing shows in pleadings, memoranda and transactional documents. It also helps when she translates dense tax rules into usable advice for business owners and family decision makers.

Over the years Comstock has balanced advisory work and dispute resolution. Some matters require negotiation; others require preparing formal positions for regulators or courts. She adapts her work product to the audience. Technical documents are precise. Client summaries are direct and use plain language when possible.

Outside of direct client work, she has participated in professional conversations about tax developments in Washington. She reads legislative and regulatory changes closely, which helps her anticipate issues for clients and update planning where needed. She keeps current on federal and state guidance so that recommendations reflect the most recent rules.

As of 2026 Comstock maintains a practice in Washington that draws on her LL.M. in Taxation and her J.D. from Gonzaga. She continues to handle tax planning, compliance, and controversy matters for a range of clients.
